PEAKS AND CHAMISA

The brilliant yellow chamisa is at it's peak until the first snow fall.  When temperatures hit freezing, the yellow fades to a tawny straw color.  The prime time for autumnal color in northern New Mexico is late September, mid-October is prime time and on until that first freezing snow, usually about mid November.  This year, 2024, snow fell the first week in November and put the lights out.
